Pro-Science: Atheism or Christianity?

Atheism is not science; neither is science Atheism. Joining the two marries science with the only positive claim about that world Atheists can adopt: There is only matter and energy. But that is not Atheism, that’s materialism.

Christianity is not science; neither is science Christianity. A marriage of these two results in Christians taking the most modern snapshot of the latest scientific findings, and petrifying them inside their interpretation of the scriptures for all time. That is Fundamentalism.

Christianity is reduced to Fundamentalism. Atheism is expanded into materialism. Neither action reflects the other truly.

Atheism minus materialism cannot support science; Fundamentalism leads to no further advances in science. Christianity minus Fundamentalism can support science.

    1. Anything that exists in this world requires a foundation for its existence. We must ask, what gave rise to this? What were the necessary seeds that caused this to grow? That’s what I mean by “support.”

      1. The foundations of science are built off of the beliefs man has about his world, whether he thinks it is worth investigating, or what he might expect to find. It is some positive claim or belief that he can honestly hold. These are the seeds of science. Man might explore expecting to find something intelligible, something that operates in an orderly fashion. Or he might go about trying to find something out of the ordinary or special. But, each time he must go expecting to find something distinguishable. It’s hard to imagine someone expecting to find disarray, chaos, unintelligible, or indistinguishable. We should wonder why that man set out in the first place.

Something supernatural is not a necessary element to bring in. And people use that word so much, I don’t know what it means anymore. If you could define it, maybe we could discuss it more.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
The terms you use seem to be deliberately clumsy and vague.

If you want to talk about science then use the terms that are common to scientists.
Going on about “seeds” and “foundations” isn’t very helpful.
We shouldn’t have to parse your meaning.
Say what you mean and mean what you say.

As an atheist, it seems you are trying to edge towards your brandname god. Now maybe you are not doing that. Yet we both speak English.
The word “supernatural” is easy to find in the dictionary.
        Gods are supernatural.
        So….
I have no wish to put words in your mouth but I also don’t want to play guessing games with where your trying to go.
Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Some definitive claims and conclusions would be nice.

  1. Joining the two marries science with the only positive claim about that world Atheists can adopt:.

    No.
I have no idea what claim atheists adopt about the world.
That’s as silly as claiming that there’s some mystery atheist worldview or something.
    Atheism is really very simple.
It can be summed up in one sentence.
    Very easy.
    There’s no claim.
    No outlook.
    No philosophy.
    No worldview.
    No manual.
    No extras.

It’s exactly the same as a-Bigfootism. Only instead of Bigfoots it’s about theistic claims.

Atheism minus materialism cannot support science.

    Wordsalad.
    Behold…

A-Bigfootism minus materialism cannot support science.

Christianity minus Fundamentalism can support science.

    (????)
Baalism minus Fundamentalism can support science.
    Or something.

    Here’s an idea!

Instead of telling athiests what they really think, how about you listen to them?
Don’t make stuff up to suit yourself.
    Don’t create strawmen.

    Just google it.
There’s loads of mainstream atheist resources out there. Avail yourself of them. Represent them as openly and as honestly as you would have yourself represented.
    If you can.

    1. You pretty much made my case for me. There is no positive claim atheists make just by virtue of being an atheist. They may adopt materialism or they may not. Atheism is not materialism. Atheism is not science.

      1. There is no positive claim atheists make just by virtue of being an atheist.

This contradicts what you have said in the past.
        What changed your mind?

Atheism is not materialism. Atheism is not science.

Very true. Nor do atheists claim otherwise.
Atheism is also not football. Nor is it teatime.
In fact, there are many things that cannot be described as atheism.

Atheism is very simple to understand. It’s nothing complicated.
It’s a bad idea to conflate it with something else.

        Atheism is not science.
        Love is just a word.
        Etc.
        Deepities abound.
